I am delighted to be participating in a group show at GBS Fine Art : To inaugurate the new gallery at 13 Sadler Street in Wells, GBS Fine Art are proud to announce an opening exhibition entitled Concrete and Tyres, referencing a verse from Larkin’s 1972 poem Going Going. I am donating two original drawings to support a silent auction to raise money for Choose Love Help Refugees. I am one of 150 artists participating, with proceeds from sales going towards aiding refugees during the Covid crisis. Bidding starts on June 8, so please dig deep friends and support this extremely worthy cause. Help Refugees advocates for long term impact against injustice and provides critical support to vulnerable communities. All funds raised during this silent art auction will go towards increasing support to medical organizations who provide doctors and nurses, emergency isolation, vital access to medical treatment and water, and distribution of sanitary products to aid the preventative spread of Covid 19.

Very pleased and honored to have work selected for the Gormley Gallery's 31st National Drawing & Print Competitive Exhibition. Curated by Doreen Bolger, former director of the Baltimore Museum of Art, the exhibition runs from March 23 until April 24 at the Notre Dame of Maryland University.
I am delighted to have work included in a group show opening in Paris at Galerie Felli on December 12. The exhibition will run until January 5 2020.
'A Quiet Respite'
Carrie Haddad Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibit entitled A Quiet Respite, featuring new work by gallery artists who have dedicated their artistic practice to capturing our natural world. As another decade in the 21st century comes to an end, technology now finds itself ingrained in nearly every facet of daily life. When the weight of such connectivity becomes too great, oftentimes, one seeks solace in nature, whether it be in the backyard or a distant getaway. The landscapes highlighted in this exhibit, both real and imagined, are realized for their ability to provide just that; a respite away from it all. Paintings by David Konigsberg, Jane Bloodgood-Abrams, Harry Orlyk, Tracy Helgeson, Judy Reynolds and Eileen Murphy will be on view alongside intricate charcoal drawings by Sue Bryan. The show will be on view November 13 – January 5, with an artists’ reception on Saturday, Nov. 16, 5-7pm. All are welcome to attend.

Royal Hibernian Academy 189th Annual Exhibition
I am thrilled to have a piece selected for the RHA's Annual Exhibition. Irelands largest and longest running exhibition of visual art, the RHA Annual Exhibition, returns for its 189th year. Open to the public, with free admission, from Monday 21 May the Annual Exhibition attracts a large audience with over 51,000 visitors during 2018 viewing works by 416 artists working in paint, sculpture, drawing, print, photography and architecture.

I am delighted to share that my drawing 'Waif' has been selected as a finalist for the Manifest Grand Jury Prize, Season 14. The 52 finalists represent the highest ranking artworks out of roughly 8,200 separate works submitted for consideration across 21 group and 9 solo exhibitions during Manifest's 14th season. Based on jury scores the highest scoring work from each exhibit of the season is added to the pool of candidates for the annual Grand Jury Prize. Juries for the exhibits are conducted 'blind' without reference to the artist's personal info, location, or background. Jurors are volunteer experts in art and design from across the United States, including professors, working artists, curators, gallery directors, and others qualified and trusted to provide sound objective judgment of the works provided. Each jury usually consists of at least 5 jurors, and sometimes more than 10. Jury groups are shuffled and changed from exhibit to exhibit, so a pattern does not result.
I am honored to have my work featured on the cover of Manifest Gallery's 12th International Drawing Annual. For the INDA 12 Manifest received 1540 submissions from 476 artists from 42 states, one U.S. territory, and 28 countries. The publication will include 120 works by 76 artists from 20 states and 11 countries. Written works by Patricia Emison and Eric Rennie are also included.
Eleven professional and academic advisors qualified in the fields of art, design, and art history juried this 12th International Drawing Annual. The process of selection was by anonymous blind jury, with each jury member assigning a quality rating for artistic merit to each work submitted. The entries receiving the highest average combined score will be included in this publication.
This Online Supplemental Resource will provide information and details of sample works for each artist included in the publication by the time the publication is released to the public in late 2018 or early 2019.
28th Annual Holiday Miniature Show, Abend Gallery

Blue Mountain Gallery is pleased to announce its Summer Juried Show featuring 34 artists from all over the United States. The juror, John Yau, selected pieces in a range of styles from over one thousand entries. Yau is an art critic and curator as well as a distinguished poet, recently winnng the prestigious 2018 Jackson Poetry Prize. He has authored monographs on Philip Taaffe, Thomas Nozkowski, Catherine Murphy, and many other artists, contributing essays to many catalogues and museum publications. He has written for Art in America, Artforum, Art News, New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Art Press and in 2012 helped start the online journal, Hyperallergic Weekend, where he frequently posts reviews. His work is included in many anthologies of poetry, fiction, and criticism, and has been translated into French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Chinese. A recipient of awards and fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, National Endowment of the Arts, Academy of American Poets, New York Foundation of the Arts, Ingram Merrill Foundation, and the General Electric Foundation, he has been named a Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government. Yau will be present at the opening reception on July 12.
'DRAWN'
Manifest Gallery, OH, April 20 - May 19 2018
I am honored to be included in Manifest Gallery's 5th annual 'DRAWN' exhibit. DRAWN called for artists to submit works of drawing in any media relevant to the practice (including non-traditional approaches), any style, and any genre (fine art, illustration, design, conceptual, realism, etc.).
For this exhibit 217 artists from 38 states, the District of Columbia, and 12 countries submitted 632 works for consideration. Forty-four works by 33 artists from 18 states and the countries of Australia, Canada, England, and France were selected by a panel of volunteer jurors for presentation in the gallery and the Manifest Exhibition Annual publication.

'Arboreal', Manifest Gallery, OH, November 9 - December 8 2017
Trees cover about 30% of the Earth's land surface. There are roughly 400 trees per every living human on Earth. 12,000 years ago, before people developed agriculture, there were twice as many trees.
If there is any natural form beyond the ocean that is more symbolic of nature as the origin of humanity, it is trees. Both are powerful beyond our reckoning in their own ways, and each provides an unappreciated resource, assumed, until most recently, to be infinite. Trees are the lungs of the Earth, and thereby an extension of the lungs of any breathing creature, including us.
How do artists interpret the role or form of the tree? What meaning is derived from a creative response to this force of nature? How are the fates of trees, forests, and mankind intertwined, and how is this expressed through art? How do tree-based materials, and therefore trees themselves, influence the artwork that they are used to make? Manifest invited artists working in any media to share works that either directly or indirectly address the topic of trees or related aspects. The theme was open to wide interpretation, and works were expected to explore various avenues of thought around the tree, its dependents, or its wood.
For this exhibit 238 artists from 44 states, Canada, the Czech Republic, Israel, Lebanon, and The Netherlands submitted 754 works. Eighteen works by the following 16 artists from 9 states and England were selected by a blind jury process for presentation in the gallery and the Manifest Exhibition Annual publication.

'A Long Way From Home' brings together the work of Irish born Sue Bryan and American born Michelle Conway, two artists whose fascination with memory and place may be traced in their respective relocations across The Atlantic.
Now based in New York, Bryan’s atmospheric miniature drawings in charcoal and carbon refer to her memories of growing up in Ireland. The softness of these natural scenes express an obscurity and cloudiness caused by factors relating both to the weather and in our ability to conjure a memory in the mind’s eye. In her choice of charcoal as medium, Bryan’s natural scenes are created with an implied sense of origin. She describes: ‘Much of drawing’s appeal to me lies in its very constraint, in its simplification, in the reduction of nature’s macrocosm to the coal-black char of organic matter. For me, the act of drawing is an end in itself." - Sue Bryan.
Muted and soft in tone, Conway’s landscapes in oil depict vacant scenes that might normally be frequented by people. These spaces of leisure, habitation and of in-between waiting spaces are evocative of 1960s snapshots and contain traces of her American heritage. The artist describes: ‘painting reminds me of what no longer exists. It is my way of experiencing the world as it is’. Splashes of colour are often picked out within these familiar spaces, as if to further aid the memory or update them to the present day.
Presenting the viewer with these scenes of non-specific locality, A Long Way From Home invites us to consider our own sense of belonging and shared nostalgia.

I am delighted to participate in 'Palette', an exhibition to be held in the Abend Gallery, Denver, CO, from June 15 until July 8. As I don't use a palette in the traditional sense of the word, I chose to interpret the definition of the word 'palette' figuratively, as in the variety of techniques, or range of colors an artist may use. My process is one of building up tones and textures using a technique of charcoal and carbon combined. This process yields a wonderful range of blacks and grays that vary in density and transparency as much as in tonality.

Black & White Show, Salmagundi Club, New York City, February 6 - March 2 2017
I am delighted to have a piece in the Salmagundi Club's historical Black & White Show. The first Black & White Exhibition at the Salmagundi Club took place in 1878, only a few short years after the Club was formed. It provided a rich catalogue of the artists of the day, and interestingly enough, exhibitors did not originally need to be members to participate. As the public's interest in illustration grew, these exhibitions provided artwork for a variety of purposes, and many of the works initially shown in these shows went on to be published in the burgeoning magazine market of the late 19th century. The "Black and White" has taken place yearly since then.

8th Annual Drawing Discourse Exhibition, S Tucker Cooke Gallery, University of North Carolina Asheville, January 20 - February 17 2017

Such an exhibition will demonstrate the continued significance of drawing through the use of conventional and innovative methods. 'Smart Dust', Group Show, Sla307, 307 West 30th Street, New York, NY, December 9 - January 7
I am delighted to have a piece included in 'Smart Dust', a group exhibition presented by Sla307. The term "Smart Dust" was dreamed up by UC Berkeley Professor Kris Pister in the 1990s. In this futuristic conception, the planet is sprinkled with zillions of micro/nano electro mechanical systems (MEMS), which monitor, detect, and interpret everything on Earth: light, temperature, vibration, magnetism, weight, chemicals, and, by extension, human thoughts, feelings, and desires. In a poetic way, this neural dust acts like the planet's central nervous system. In a more dystopian interpretation, it can become an ultimate totalitarian mind control machine. Works are no bigger than 8 in x 8 in - with the idea of creating tension between a minimum of size and a maximum of contributors. The smallness of each part allows others to coexist in the same universe.

'Williams Prize in Drawing' Exhibition, Silpe Gallery, Hartford Art School, CT, Jun 28 - July 24 2016
The Williams Prize in Drawing for Emerging Artists is a celebration of drawing as a critical element in contemporary art making and as an art form with powerful expressive possibilities. The prize was designed to provide a venue through which emerging artists can share, on a national stage, both their unique visions and their drawing skills. My thanks to Juror Douglas Martenson for selecting my drawing 'None But Ourselves' for this exhibition.
132nd Annual Members' Exhibition, Salmagundi Club, NYC,

I am honored to have my drawing 'The Garden of the Golden Apples' included in the Salmagundi Club's Annual Members' Exhibition. The show opens on April 25 and runs until May 19 2016.
Founded in 1871, the Salmagundi Club is one of the oldest art organizations in the United States. Housed in an historic brownstone mansion in Greenwich Village, New York City, its members have included important American artists such as Thomas Moran, William Merritt Chase, Louis Comfort Tiffany, N.C. Wyeth and Childe Hassam.
'DRAWN', 3rd Annual International Exhibition of Contemporary Drawing, Manifest Gallery, OH
I am delighted to have two pieces included in this exhibition. 'DRAWN' called for artists to submit works of drawing in any media relevant to the practice (including non-traditional approaches), any style, and any genre (fine art, illustration, design, conceptual, realism, etc.).
For this exhibit 422 artists from 43 states, Washington D.C., and 16 different countries submitted 1294 works for consideration. Fifty-two works by 37 artists from 17 states (California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Utah, Washington) and England were selected by a large panel of volunteer jurors for presentation in the gallery and the Manifest Exhibition Annual publication.
186th Annual Exhibition, Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA), Dublin, March 21 - June 11 2016
I am honored that my drawing 'Time and Place III' has been selected for the RHA's 186th Annual Exhibition in my hometown of Dublin, Ireland. The Royal Hibernian Academy was founded in 1823 and the original purpose-built building, designed by its second President, Francis Johnson (1760-1829) in 1825, was situated on Lower Abbey Street. Academy House, most of its contents and the entire annual exhibition were destroyed by fire during the Easter Rising in 1916. To commemorate the 1916 Easter Rising, the 186th RHA Annual Exhibition will return to its original time of the year and will be open to the public from March 22nd until June 11th.
Historic Black & White Show, Salmagundi Club, New York City, January 18 - February 4 2016
I am delighted to have two drawings included in The Salmagundi Club's historic Annual Black and White Exhibition. This show is a juried members' exhibition of black and white or monochromatic sepia drawings, graphics, photographs, paintings, and sculpture by artist members. Admission is free to all visitors. The galleries are open to the public daily, Mon-Fri 1-6pm, Sat & Sun 1-5pm.
The first Black & White Exhibition at the Salmagundi Club took place in 1878, only a few short years after the Club was formed. It provided a rich catalogue of the artists of the day, and interestingly enough, exhibitors did not originally need to be members to participate. As the public's interest in illustration grew, these exhibitions provided artwork for a variety of purposes, and many of the works initially shown in these shows went on to be published in the burgeoning magazine market of the late 19th century. The "Black and White" has taken place yearly since then.
7th Annual Drawing Discourse, S.Tucker Cooke Gallery, UNC Asheville, January 15 - February 12 2016
I am delighted to announce that my drawing 'The Memory of Trees' has been selected for the 7th Annual Contemporary Drawing Exhibition at the University of North Carolina, Asheville by juror Edgar Jerins. The University of North Carolina Asheville seeks to examine drawing as it is practiced and defined by today's artists. Such an exhibition will demonstrate the continued significance of drawing through the use of conventional and innovative methods.

"A native of Ireland, Sue Bryan explores the memories of youth rooted in her homeland's landscape. Employing charcoal on both paper and panel, these moody and misty studies remind us that the water-locked terrain is not always sunny and green. Exquisite detail found in each tree branch or mass of tall grasses lining the horizon dominates the foreground. Light emulates from the background attempting to penetrate the density of opaque cloud cover. Bryan's small scale drawings convey an intimate and highly personal sense of place and belonging."
Carrie Haddad Gallery is pleased to present “Radical Inventions”, an exhibit featuring the work of six gallery artists. Painters David Konigsberg and Ralph Stout will show recent work alongside gallery favorite of fellow artist, Shawn Snow. Multi-media constructions by Stephen King will also be featured with large abstract works by architect turned visual artist, Juan Garcia Nunez. Sue Bryan will show recent drawings. The exhibit will open Wednesday, November 18th and will be up through Sunday, December 27th. A reception for the artists will be held on Sunday, November 22nd from 2-4pm. All are welcome to attend.

I'm delighted that three of my drawings have been selected for the 22nd Annual 'Small Matters of Great Importance' , a national juried exhibition which celebrates small works that make big statements despite their size. In keeping with Edward Hopper-related themes, this year all submissions related to Light & Shadow. Light was an important expressive tool for Edward Hopper.
